Paper Folding for Packaging Printing

Carton inserts, leaflets and large-format packaging print — folds that have to survive automatic packing equipment.

Packaging

Packaging folding is judged at the far end of the line. The folded piece has to be flat, square and consistent because it will be picked up by an automatic cartoner or inserter that has no tolerance for variation — and it has to stay that way in a stack that may sit in a warehouse before it is used.

That is why packaging lines are built as a sequence rather than a single machine: fold on the T600 or T780 platform, trim or slit inline with the SD-X250 where an edge has to be square, and flatten with the SD-XP300 so the fold bulge is gone before packing.

What gets folded in packaging

The folded products this sector buys, and the machine decision each one forces.

Carton inserts

Leaflets and promotional inserts folded to carton size, packed by automatic equipment.

Multi-panel leaflets

Deep folds that carry regulatory or promotional copy on a single sheet.

Large-format packaging print

Oversized sheets up to 780 × 1200 mm folded on the T780 platform.

Labels and wrap-around pieces

Folded in line with labelling and gluing modules on the T520 platform.

What this sector demands

Production requirements to review when specifying equipment for this sector.

01

Consistency for automatic packing

Every piece has to present the same dimensions to the cartoner, which makes fold position consistency over a full run the acceptance criterion.

02

Flatness in the stack

Air trapped between folded panels bulges a stack and jams feeders; press flattening is the fix.

03

Inline capability

Folding, trimming, gluing and labelling as one pass removes handling and re-registration between operations.

04

Large-format capability

Packaging print frequently arrives as a big sheet folded down, so the platform has to reach 780 × 1200 mm without marking.

Production considerations

Carton inserts and promotional leaflets are folded to a finished size that downstream equipment can pick up consistently. Square edges and flat stacks may be needed for automatic packing.

T520, T600 or T780 folding configurations can be paired with SD-X250 trimming or SD-XP300 pressing when the finishing requirement calls for them. Confirm the carton and stock before selecting modules.
