Buckle Folding Machines

A buckle folder forms a fold by pushing the sheet against an adjustable stop plate until it bows and is gripped by the folding rollers. Because each plate is an independent stop, one buckle folder produces parallel, cross and letter folds without any tooling change — which is why the buckle principle still carries the bulk of commercial and pharmaceutical folding work.

What this range is for

  • Parallel folds (half, tri-fold, quarter fold) on 28–210 gsm stock
  • Cross and letter folds for brochures, catalogues and mailers
  • Miniature instruction leaflets down to 60 × 100 mm sheets
  • Long-run insert work where changeover time drives the unit cost

How to choose within this range

  1. 01 Match the maximum sheet size first: T490 and T600 cover up to 600 × 1000 mm, T780 up to 780 × 1200 mm.
  2. 02 Count the plates you need — 10+4 and 12+6 combinations cover almost every standard direct-mail and brochure fold pattern.
  3. 03 Choose the 14+6 extended-delivery plate set when you fold heavy cross folds and need extra grip on the last pass.
  4. 04 Add a round-pile or recirculating feeder when a single operator has to run more than one machine.

Folded product applications

Pharmaceutical leaflets

Pharmaceutical leaflets

Folded to carton-insert size from 40–120 gsm pharma paper; the highest-volume pharmaceutical folding job.

Production considerations

Patient information leaflets must fit the carton while retaining readable multi-panel copy. Miniature sheet handling, repeatable fold position and counted delivery are the main production checks.

The T490 and T520 cover leaflet folding; the SD-X250 can trim or slit a finished leaflet when the cut edge is part of the job. Confirm the pattern on the actual stock before specifying the line.

Pharmaceutical outserts

Pharmaceutical outserts

Deep-folded leaflets of 8, 12 or 16 panels that behave like a booklet and must lie flat for packing.

Production considerations

An outsert folds a larger information sheet into a compact, multi-panel piece for a carton. The finished stack must lie flat and feed consistently into packing equipment.

The folding platform and plate arrangement depend on the panel count and sheet. Where required, the SD-X250 trims the folded work and the SD-XP300 presses the finished stack.

Brochures and catalogues

Brochures and catalogues

Parallel, roll and gate folds in 100–200 gsm stock, folded square enough to stack flat.

Production considerations

Commercial print shops alternate between brochure, catalogue and mailer formats. Fold-pattern coverage and changeover time therefore matter alongside running speed.

T490, T600 and T780 configurations cover different sheet formats. Round-pile feeding can support longer runs on compatible T600 and T780 lines. Match the plate set and feeder to the real job mix.

Packaging inserts

Packaging inserts

Leaflets and promotional inserts folded to carton size, packed by automatic equipment.

Production considerations

Carton inserts and promotional leaflets are folded to a finished size that downstream equipment can pick up consistently. Square edges and flat stacks may be needed for automatic packing.

T520, T600 or T780 folding configurations can be paired with SD-X250 trimming or SD-XP300 pressing when the finishing requirement calls for them. Confirm the carton and stock before selecting modules.

Book signatures

Book signatures

Parallel and cross folds for section-sewn and perfect-bound work.

Production considerations

Publishing signatures require stable register through parallel and cross folds so sections collate and bind cleanly.

T600 and T780 configurations address different sheet formats. A compatible round-pile feeder can reduce stops on long batches. Set the fold pattern and feeder against the actual signature stock.
